  • Transcript: Installing in Rear Facing Using LATCH

Hi, I'm Ryan, the product manager and CPST from Baby Trend, and I'm going to be showing you how to install our Secure-Lift Infant Car Seat using LATCH.

Refer to your vehicle's manual to locate the proper LATCH position and LATCH anchors. We'll start by placing the base flat on the vehicle seat and pushing it back until the base touches the seat back. Check to make sure the base is leveled by looking at the bubble indicator. If it's not, you can adjust the recline until it is. Unclip the push on LATCH connectors from the base. You can loosen the LATCH webbing in order to facilitate the installation.

Now, clip the push on LATCH connectors onto your vehicle's LATCH anchors. You will hear a click and see the indicator window turn green when the connectors have properly attached to the anchors. Confirm they are firmly attached by pulling outwards on the connectors. Proper installation using LATCH requires that the LATCH webbing be very tight. I like to thread the webbing through the belt path to better tighten it. You should pull on the webbing ends following the same angle as the installed webbing.

So now, you'll use either your knee or hand to press down hard on the base while pulling towards the car seat base on the webbing ends. To make sure that the seat is tight, move it side to side and front to back. If it moves less than an inch where the LATCH webbing meets the base, then you have a good installation.

After you put the child in the car seat you want to make sure that the shoulder belts are at or below the child's shoulders, then you can secure the buckles. I like to secure the chest clip at this time. And now you can tighten the harness. Always make sure that the chest clip is at armpit level and you can't pinch the material on the harness. That's how you know that it's snug.

Now you can click your carrier into the base. Lift up on the carrier to make sure that it's properly secured and always double-check your level indicator to make sure that it's still leveled.

And lastly, rotate the handle to the anti-rebound position while in the vehicle. And now you're ready to go!

Hi, I'm Ryan from Baby Trend, and I'm going to be showing you how to install our Secure-Lift Infant Car Seat using your vehicle's seat belt.

We'll start by placing the base flat on the vehicle seat and pushing it back until the base touches the seat back. Check to make sure the base is leveled by looking at the bubble indicator. If it's not, you can adjust the recline until it is.

Now, pull out your vehicle's seat belt and route through the belt path, across the base, and down to the other side. And now you can clip it into the buckle. Take out any slack and make sure that the belts aren't twisted.

Then you want to pull the shoulder belt all the way out and let it back in slowly. If it's clicking, that means that the belt is locked and that's important for a good installation.

To tighten the base I like to grab the shoulder strap here in the middle and with my other hand or my knee I like to push down and into the vehicle seat. And now you can feed the excess strap back into the vehicle.

To make sure that the seat is tight, move it side to side and front to back. If it moves less than an inch where the belt crosses the base, then you have a good installation.

After you put the baby in the car seat you want to make sure that the shoulder belts are at or below the baby's shoulders, then you can secure the buckles. I like to secure the chest clip at this time.
